One of the most remarkable achievements of Jihyo’s solo debut is her entry into the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, which ranks the most popular albums in the United States based on multi-metric consumption. According to Billboard’s official release on August 29 (local time), Jihyo’s first mini-album, “ZONE”, released on August 18, entered 14th place on the chart, making her the second female K-pop soloist to do so, following her co-member Nayeon’s release of “IM NAYEON” in 2022.

Jihyo also ranked 10th in the “Artist 100” chart, which measures artist activity across various Billboard charts. She is the highest-ranking female K-pop soloist on this chart, surpassing IU who peaked at No. 11 in May 2021.

“ZONE” also succeeded in charting in a total of nine categories, including the “Top Album Sales” (No. 4), “Top Current Album Sales” (No. 4), “Billboard Global 200” (No. 193), “Billboard Global” (excluding the U.S.) (No. 127), “LyricFind Global” (No. 14), “World Album” (No. 3) and “World Digital Song sales” (No. 11).

These results show that Jihyo has a strong fanbase and appeal not only in Asia but also in the U.S., which is considered one of the most competitive music markets in the world.

Jihyo also cemented her status in South Korea after recording history as the female idol with the highest first-week sales among mini-album releases.

“ZONE” particularly achieved 534,565 copies (record sales for a week based on the release date) based on the album aggregation site Hanteo Chart on August 24.

This is an impressive feat considering that Jihyo is a female soloist who debuted as a group member. She surpassed the previous record held by BLACKPINK Rosé, who sold 448,089 copies of her single album “-R-” in March 2021.

Aside from being the highest-selling mini-album among female soloists, Jihyo also broke the record sales among female solo artists and established her name name as the first half-million-seller with “ZONE” among mini-album releases.

She also topped various music charts in South Korea, such as Gaon, Hanteo, Synnara, and Hottracks, with her album and title track.

The song also entered the top 10 of Spotify’s “Top Album Debut Global Chart,” “Top Album Debut USA Chart” (August 18-20), and Top Album Debut UK Chart (August 18-21).

Jihyo also became a viral sensation on TikTok, where her song inspired a popular and addictive challenge among idols and fans. The challenge involves dancing to the chorus of “Killin’ Me Good,” which showcases Jihyo’s solid singing skills and powerful performance.

The official MV for the song also surpassed 11 million views as of Aug. 30, demonstrating Jihyo’s charisma and talent as a solo artist.

Jihyo’s solo debut was met with some criticism from netizens who claimed that she “flopped” after failing to dominate the MelOn chart, the largest music-streaming platform in South Korea.

Some netizens commented:

She should have stayed in TWICE. She doesn’t have what it takes to be a soloist.

Her song is boring and generic. She can’t even rank high on MelOn.

She is only popular because of TWICE’s fandom. She doesn’t have any public recognition or appeal.

However, Jihyo proved them wrong with her achievements both locally and abroad, showing that she is more than just a group member or a main vocalist. She is a versatile and talented artist who can express herself through various genres and styles.

Jihyo also received a lot of praise and support from her fans and fellow artists, who congratulated her on her successful solo debut.
